What is a Giclée Print

A giclée is a fine art print on artist's canvas that can be stretched on a wood frame just as an original oil painting is. The artist and printer work together carefully inspecting the color and quality of detail, in order to truly replicate the original. This makes the painting available to the public even after the original painting is sold. In addition, a glicée is priced significantly less than the original.

About Kathryn Heuzey

Kathryn Heuzey was born in 1949 and was raised in Glen Cove, Long Island. She received a B.A. in studio art from Skidmore College, and an M.A. of Art Therapy from New York University. She studied painting at Tyler School of Art in Rome, Italy (affiliated with Temple University) and then privately with Schilli Mayer. After completing her studies at NYU, she practiced Art Therapy in Hoch Northeast Nassau and Pilgrim State Hospital on Long Island. Her work in Art Therapy had an important influence on her work as an artist and as a teacher of art.

When first returning to Long Island in 1980, Ms Heuzey was deeply inspired by a show at the Nassau County Museum called "Contemporary Naturalism." This movement of art is also known as "Contemporary Realism." In her oil paintings and drawings, Ms. Heuzey works in a direct and naturalistic style, drawing from the beauty of nature in landscape, weather, people and natural objects. She is especially interested in detail and creating an intimacy that will touch her viewers.

Ms. Heuzey's painting style is realism with scenes of everyday life and landscapes on Long Island where she has lived from most of her life and raised her children. She has also traveled extensively to Italy, which has inspired many of her landscaping paintings. The beauty of Long Island Sound and Long Island's rich greens and autumn colors are deeply moving for her. The still lives are meant to evoke the lives and feelings of people who would create and enjoy them in everyday life. Her landscape paintings in Italy are also inspired by the beautiful countryside which often includes fields of sunflowers.

If you are interested, commissions are available as well as some of these paintings as originals. All of the paintings in this gallery are available as giclees and prints. She hopes they speak to you and you enjoy the show.
